Merritt is a small city 270 km (170 mi) northeast of Vancouver. It is known for its country music festival. The main attraction for us though is Kentucky lake, only half an hour away. Extraordinary beauty with its sparkling turquoise waters, Kentucky Lake is the perfect spot for kayaking and fishing. There is an easy walking trail that circles the lake. Kentucky Lake is quite a spot. Beside it, almost a stones throw away, is Alleyne Lake. It is possible to park an RV here. The Kentuky/ Alleyne Lakes have three campground areas, Kentuky Lake (31 Sites), Alleyne Lake (16 sites), and West Pond (5 sites). Off of Alleyne Lake there also also four sites nestled into a Douglas fir forest.
Although spending much time at the lake, we have not camped there. Instead, we have camped in Merritt itself at the Moonshadows RV Park and then driven over. Moonshadows offers 25 fully serviced RV sites and 25 non-serviced RV sites. They also provide hot showers and bathrooms, laundry facilities and a campground store. The restrooms are wheelchair accessible. They even offer metered propane delivery for longer term stays. There is a river right there and it is a great place to rest. Merrit also is the home of Claybanks RV park located on the Coldwater River. This park offers 44 Large Fully-Serviced Sites.
